Class dates are subject to change, please contact Debby for the latest information. Please take a few minutes to check out the directions on the Facility page to Dogwood before the first night of class and feel free to call for additional directions.

Due to the unpredictability in Houston weather, we reserve the right to cancel classes if there is dangerous weather in the area. Please call the Dogwood phone number, 713-849-9115 to check on class status.

Please review the prerequisites identified for a class before enrolling and read the course description for the PREREQUISITE class. If you believe your dog's current training meets the skills taught in our Basic Obedience Class, you may request a private with a Dogwood instructor to assess proper placement in our classes. The private with a Dogwood instructor is $40 and is payable in advance to the instructor. Assessments are ONLY available to place out of Basic Obedience. All other pre-req classes must be taken via the Dogwood classes.

	Pre-Novice Obedience class will start working on the different parts to heeling- such as turns, pace changes, halts, figure 8 pieces and handling. During the class, we will integrate these skills into Rally sign requirements, Agility flatwork skills, and Novice Obedience. PreNovice introduces the concept of distractions (distractions can be rewarding) and teaching a dog to stay with its handler, critical skills whether your dog is showing in Rally, Agility, or Obedience. The class also works on skills required for all levels of Rally, agility flatwork, and Novice Obedience including: Stand, Stays, Recalls, Fronts and Finishes, Set-ups, Continue with sphinx drop, Introduction to Recalls over the jumps, Cookie retrieves and Pivots.

	Novice Obedience class will help you polish the skills required to show in all levels of Rally and will start to prepare you to show in Novice obedience. During Novice class we will start the foundations of skills needed to progress to Open Obedience and we will introduce Utility Obedience skills. This class includes proofing for heeling exercises and working on the various heeling maneuvers needed for Rally such as circle left, circle right, moving down, moving sit, figure-8, serpentines, etc. During class we will review ring procedure and periodially do run throughs. We will start to proof recalls, introduce the drop on recall, introduce high jumps and broad jumps, introduce the foundations of the retrieve exercise, Utility Sit signal, Cookie marking and Teach box for the turn and sit. Students should have access to jumps for training.STAY WORK sessions included.

	Open/Utility Class will teach and perfect, Retrieves on flat as well as over high jump, Broad Jump and Off- Leash heeling as well as teach and perfect, Go-outs, Signals, directed jumping , Gloves and articles.In addition, we will Ring review ring procedure and proof all exercises as well as continue to keep the dog focsued and driven. Students should have access to jumps for training.
