Bonnie Baker and OTCh Tanbark's Blond Bombshell UDX "Bang" In 1993, Lew and I went to the Classic in Memphis just to spectate. At the time I was training another dog who had just gotten his CD and was about ready for Open. I wasn't really ready for a puppy, but was in the "puppyitis" stage where I wanted one but couldn't justify acquiring one. When Nancy Patton mentioned there would be a last breeding of her great OTCH Locknor B Fifty-two Bomber to Tanbark's Frisbee Fletcher my ears perked up. I'd seen several dogs from the previous litters and liked all of them. After about 2 seconds of thought I decided to go for it. As soon as I got home, I called Yvonne Tobey-Piefer of Tanbark Goldens and asked if I could have pick bitch. Thank heaven she said yes. On April 5, 1994, Yvonne called to tell me the litter had been born and there were 5 males and 2 females. I had already decided I would go to Wisconsin to pick up my puppy, so when they were 8 weeks old I flew up to meet my little girl. I had decided when I first met Bomber that IF I ever had one of his puppies and it was a girl, I'd call her (Kennel Name) "Blonde Bombshell" with call name "Bang" in honor of him. So the name was already taken care of. However, one girl was blonde and the other red. The red one was the one for me, so I said, "What's in a name?" I took the red one and called her Tanbark's Blonde Bombshell even though she certainly isn't blonde. Bang began her show career in February of 1998 and earned her OTCH in January of 2000 by winning an Open B class with a 200 score. Along the way she's earned 6 HIT and a High Combined. Bang is an absolute delight to train, show and live with. While each dog we train teaches us new and different training methods, Bang has introduced me to a new one. It's the "just tell me what you want me to do and I'll do it" method. She's one in a million. |
